Changing Oil & Filter On Your Zero-Turn Lawn Mower

  • 1. Preparation:

    • Safety First: Always disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting.
    • Gather Supplies:
      • New oil (consult your owner's manual for the correct type and amount)
      • New oil filter (specific to your Bad Boy model)
      • Oil drain pan
      • Rags
      • Wrenches or sockets as needed

    2. Oil Change:

    • Warm Up: Run the engine briefly to slightly warm the oil for easier draining.
    • Drain Oil: Place the drain pan under the oil drain plug. Carefully loosen and remove the plug. Allow all the oil to drain completely.
    • Replace Filter:
      • Loosen and remove the old oil filter.
      • Lightly coat the new filter's gasket with fresh oil.
      • Install the new filter by hand, then tighten it slightly with a filter wrench.
    • Refill with Oil:
      • Slowly add the new oil to the engine, checking the dipstick frequently.
      • Add oil until it reaches the "Full" mark on the dipstick.
    • Replace Drain Plug:
      • Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it securely.
    • Start and Check:
      • Reconnect the spark plug wire.
      • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
      • Check for any leaks around the drain plug and filter.
      • Shut off the engine and recheck the oil level.

    Break-in Period:

    • Importance: The first 25 hours of operation are crucial for engine break-in.
    • Guidelines:
      • Vary engine speeds and loads during this period.
      • Avoid prolonged idling or full-throttle operation.
      • Check oil levels frequently during the break-in period.

    Important Note:

    • This is a general guide. Always refer to your Bad Boy owner's manual for specific instructions and safety precautions related to your particular model.
